The Hope Baptist Church were out on Plymouth Soup Run on Monday. They served 82 people with plenty of food for everyone and lots of good conversations. The StreetVet volunteers were kept busy too! Thanks to all who helped: Bev and Jaide leading the prep team (Max, Mark, Rachel, JJ and Andy), and Chris driving the bus with #babcock Trade Uion volunteers and Prayer Pastors Jaide and Michael.
Many thanks to the three students from Plympton Academy who, after appeals in school assemblies, collected nearly 90 tins of tomato soup for Plymouth Soup Run service users. Karen Allen (of Mutley Baptist Church, that organises the run every Wednesday night) was delighted to accept the donation from them and to thank the staff who facilitated the collection.
There was a buzz of excitement in the air on Sunday night, following Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool. 93 meals were served. On the menu - macaroni cheese, a selection of hot savouries, sandwiches, soup, bananas and LOTS of extras. Many thanks to all the team and to FareShare South West.

Mutley Baptist Church were delighted to collect food donations from Our Lady of Lourdes, Plympton (Diocese of Plymouth) and from #caritas, Plymouth for Plymouth Soup Run. Heartfelt thanks are due to all in their congregations who continue to collect for the Soup Run!
On Saturday we opened Shekinah early, at 7.30 am, so people without accommodation could come inside out of the cold. People were very pleased to warm up and have a hot drink and food. A number of people had a much needed cat nap. Thanks to ALL the team.
On a bitterly cold Friday, 54 people came for food, with bags collected for another 8 people unable to come to the Run. 4 sleeping bags were given out to people who were newly #streethomeless. One man’s hot water bottle was filled up. We will open Shekinah at 7.30 am today for rough sleepers. Thanks to the Plymouth Christian Centre team.
The team from St Matts Plymouth had a busy night on Tuesday, serving 80 people with a further 10 meals collected for family members not able to get to the run. A selection of hot meals was served plus sandwiches, drinks and plenty of extras from FareShare South West. Thanks to all the volunteers and to Rachel #OutreachOT for her support.
Last night, Jan and the Hope Baptist Church team prepared delicious Mexican sausage pasta, pasties, a choice of sandwiches and hot drinks including Banofee Horlicks. A little extra comfort was offered by filling a client's hot water bottle. Richard drove #vivo#Vivo with Prayer Pastors Jaide and Bronia. Thanks to FareShare South West there was plenty of food on Sunday. 77 people came to the run, with 14 bags taken for family/friends not able to collect for themselves. On the menu, a choice of 6 different hot savouries, sandwiches, soup, hot and cold drinks, plus lots of extras - milk, yoghurt, cake, eggs, crumpets. Thanks to all.
A beautiful Friday evening - hardly a breeze and a clear sky. Numbers were down, with 56 served in all. The new brand of steak and ale pie, and vegetable and garlic slices (thank you Devon & Cornwall Food Action - DCFA) went down a treat. Surplus food was taken to George House. Thanks to the team from Plymouth Christian Centre. It's great to see the new volunteers settling in.
Many thanks to #thecornwallbakery (Samworth Brothers) who continue to serve on Plymouth Soup Run every 5 weeks. Last night was reasonably quiet with 60 people served. As always, the team had lots of food, so there was plenty for everybody, with the surplus taken to George House. 3 sleeping bags were also given out.
The Mutley Baptist Church team had a calm evening on Wednesday. Despite the cold wind, they served 74 meals including 6 for friends and family not able to collect for themselves. Hats, gloves, scarves, socks, jumpers and thermal underwear were in high demand. 3 sleeping bags and 3 blankets were given out, and 2 referrals made to Path Devon. Thanks to the team, to Tesco for a huge donation of bread and to a kind supporter (Margaret Cooper) for a Reverse Advent Calendar appeal donation.
It's great to have the support of local businesses. On Tuesday, volunteers Obedairedair and Sphere Selin and colleagues #spheresolutionstions organised and servePlymouth Soup Runp Run. It was a busy night with 74 people served pus 12 bags of food collected for family/friends not able to come to the run. 3 sleeping bags, a blanket and 3 day rider tickets were given out. Thanks to the team and to @outreach_OT Rachel who had helpful conversations with several people.
Fortunately, the Hope Baptist Church team out on Monday night met slightly better weather for the duration of the run. Thanks to Viv's team #babcockbcock Trades Union volunteers for preparing the food. Out on the bus were Mary, Will Max, David and Helen, plus Prayer pastors Richard and Alex. 73 people were served, and 3 sleeping bags and toiletries given out. Lots of good conversations were had including, sadly, with several people who were rough sleeping.
There were very large numbers of people at all stops on Sunday night considering how wet and windy it was. 90 people were served with plenty of food for everyone including turkey curry. Six sleeping bags and one roll mat were given out, plus a large amount of dryclothing. Many thanks to the team from St Paul’s Church Efford and to FareShare South West for all the food collected on Friday ready for the weekend.
As always on a Saturday, the opportunity to have a full English breakfast, cereal, hot and cold drinks, plus a packed lunch, was much appreciated by people who are currently #streethomeless. This week we were joined at Shekinah by Justine from University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust Mass Vaccination Team offering Covid or flu vaccinations to vulnerable people, giving a total of 14 vaccinations - a good result. Thanks to ALL.
Such a contrast in the weather between Plymouth Soup Run stops! On Friday night, it was SO wet at the first stop that everyone was drenched, and then the rain stopped. Approximately 59 people were served by the team from Plymouth Christian Centre, with eight bags of food collected for family members/friends not able to get to the run. Thanks to all.
It was the turn of the Plymouth Mayflower Rotary Club team to go out on Plymouth Soup Run last night. A mild, dry evening with no problems other than the closure of the Hoe which meant that the team could only serve at three stops. They still served 61 meals to clients who were all grateful that the run was happening despite the circumstances. Clothes and toiletries were also given out. Thanks to all.
As always on a Wednesday, Mutley Baptist Church resourced, organised and served on Plymouth Soup Run last night. They had a quiet and peaceful run, serving 59 meals, 10 of them for friends and family not able to get to the stops. Lots of warm clothing and two sleeping bags were given out, with one referral made to Path Devon. Two Year-3 medical students accompanied the run as part of their community activities. Thanks to all.
