It’s been a busy weekend for Plymouth Soup Run volunteers.
On Saturday, the team from Plymstock United Church served 79 people with 10 extra bags collected for family members. The team had to do an emergency dash to the shops to ensure that there was enough food for everyone.
Sunday night, saw a team from Saint Paul’s Church Efford out on the run. They served 71 people and also gave out 10 extra bags for people unable to come to the run.
Over the weekend 6 sleeping bags were given out, a blanket, 2 roll mats and lots of toiletries and items of clothing.
Huge thanks to all the volunteers and thanks also to EVERYONE who continues to support the soup run by dropping off food and purchasing items from the Amazon wish list.
Thanks, go to STORM running for the food they dropped off for Sunday night and to all the people who have sent sleeping bags, jogging bottoms, biscuits, socks, toiletries, foil dishes and lids from the Amazon list, most of which have arrived anonymously.
Everyone’s support is much appreciated especially by the people of Plymouth we serve on the Run 365 days a year.

A relatively busy Saturday morning at Shekinah. Sixteen people came in for a cooked breakfast, and three more people were supported at the door, two of them being given signposting information for weekday services. Several people had a shower and clean clothing. While most people relaxed, enjoyed being warm and dry, and chatted to each other and to our volunteers, some were very emotional and anxious about their individual situations. We listened, acknowledge their distress and advise as best we could. A big thank you to all who helped today - the team in the photo plus three others who dodged the camera.!
A Friday can only mean one thing, a team from Plymouth Christian Centre will be preparing food and then serving on Plymouth Soup Run. This Friday was no exception, a team of cooks were busy in the afternoon preparing fish pie, sandwiches and chicken soup, this was then collected and packed into cars for volunteers to serve at the 4 soup run stops. 58 people were served with 4 extra meals also collected.
Lots of bread and pastries were donated at the first stop with the surplus taken to George House at the end of the evening.
4 sleeping bags were given out.
Fortunately the rain held off.

The Plymouth Soup Run team from #thecornwallbakery were very busy on Thursday, serving 81 people.
They ran out of soup by the middle of the last stop (chicken and cauliflower made by their Development Chef, Steph which everyone loved) and only had 3 packs of sandwiches left, which they took to George House BCHA, along with leftover pastries and a few snack bags.
Many thanks to all the team and to The Cornwall Bakery Samworth Brothers for their support. Not only do they organise and serve on the Soup Run every 5 weeks they also supply most of the pasties and savoury goods served each night.

It was an extremely wet and blustery Tuesday evening for the team from St Matts Plymouth who saw many very grateful people. As well as serving on Plymouth Soup Run the team
were joined in their hall by a number of people who had been evacuated from their homes due to events happening locally, to whom they gave tea, crisps, soup and sandwiches prior to going out on the Run.
As always Sheena and team prepared a great selection of food including chicken and vegetable soup, sausage rolls and chips, pasta ragu, cheesy chips, ham and cucumber and cheese and tomato sandwiches. There were also lots of extras available.

Huge thanks to everyone who helped Plymouth Soup Run serve 100 + meals on Sunday. It was a cold, starlight night with more people attending than over the previous 2 nights. #charlieede who cooked at Shekinah on Saturday morning, was then busy in the kitchen on Sunday, preparing sausages, onion gravy, potatoes, carrots, and peas. The volunteers from STORM running made 110 sandwiches, egg mayonnaise, tuna mayo, and cheese and chutney. Everybody else helped by packing the bags, making up the drinks and soup and of course the inevitable washing up, before going out to serve on the Run.
Last night we were able to take out a number of extra items, including individual desserts funded by #philipwarrenbutchers, bananas, packets of biscuits, a selection of ambient food and some toiletries.
Many thanks to everyone who continues to drop off donations including Dawn, her Dad and customers from #thecuttingcorner.
Thanks also to Rachel who kindly dropped off 3 sleeping bags which are always needed.
Great #teamwork #helpingothers and providing #communitysupport.
Disappointingly, after a dry day, the rain started just before Plymouth Soup Run were due to go out on the run and continued for the whole evening!!
It was another quieter night but the team from Plymouth Methodist Central Hall and St Peter & the Holy Apostles, Plymouth had prepared plenty of food, so once again, as on Friday night, people at the last couple of stops all had doubles if they wished.
The vegetable soup was warming and very popular.
There were no requests for sleeping bags, but some items of clothing and toiletries were given out.
#MutleyBaptistChurch was open for the second night running as part of project 58: 7 with people going straight there to sleep. There were no new referrals.
Many thanks to everyone who volunteered on Saturday to support, help and feed people for whom life is challenging.

It was an exceptionally busy Saturday morning at #Shekinah with a range of services involved. 2 staff from #smokingcessation, Duncan & Eleanor, joined us to give advice on stopping smoking with vapes available where needed. Staff member Duncan said “it’s been a brilliant morning with lots of engagement”.
We were also joined by staff from #inhealthlungscreening with support from Catherine Transforming Plymouth Together, who had a constant stream of people waiting to see them. So many in fact, sadly, some people had to be turned away.
As every 2 weeks a podiatrist from Forgotten Feet - Helping Homeless Feet was also on hand treating 10 people during the morning. And while all this was going on Plymouth Soup Run volunteers were serving the 21 people, currently #homeless, who joined us for breakfast, a shower and fresh clothes.
Huge thanks to EVERYONE for their hard work and support this morning.
Brilliant collaborative working.

It was very cold on Friday, dry with a bitter wind but despite the weather there was a very friendly atmosphere at all the stops.
The number of people served on Fridays is often lower than on other nights but the team from Plymouth Christian Centre came very well prepared with plenty of food. After the first stop a generous approach was adopted and people were given 2 portions of hot food plus extra sandwiches.
All the food was very welcome and enjoyed. During the afternoon the cooks made a popular potato and leek soup, pork belly with vegetables and a variety of cheese based sandwiches.
Whilst numbers were not challenging, 53 people were served with 5 meals collected for family / friends, the need was there. Lots of warm clothing, toiletries and socks were distributed at every stop with 5 sleeping bags given out to people who were #streethomeless.
Many thanks to all the volunteers from the Plymouth Christian Centre for their help
And a special thank you to Donna and friend who made hygiene care packs containing pads, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a dehydrated towel, lip balm, fingerless thermal gloves, thermal socks and a snood all packed in a wash bag for the team to give out to the women who were at the Run. Everyone, who received one, was delighted.

During Thursday evening there was a steady flow of people at Plymouth Soup Run with almost exactly the same number of meals, 86, served, as on Wednesday evening. Last night it was the turn of Plymouth Mayflower Rotary Club to collect, prepare and serve the food. Many thanks to #TheCornwallBakery for their generous donation of pies and pasties. Cauliflower and broccoli, steak and marmite, plus quorn pies were served together with vegetable soup, which people said was “banging” and sandwiches and snacks.
1 sleeping bag and lots of clothes, especially socks, and toiletries were also given out.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who didn’t quite escape the rain as there was a huge downpour at stop 1!

As every Wednesday, a team from #mutleybaptistchurch collected, prepared and served Plymouth Soup Run.
A large donation from Tesco was received at the first stop.
One sleeping bag was given out with a referral to Path Devon and 2 further referrals were made to Path notifying them of 2 people sleeping in their car.

On Tuesday, for the first time in 2026, Plymouth Citybus arrived on the chatter bus to serve on Plymouth Soup Run. As always, everyone was delighted when the bus arrived packed with food. 90 meals were served during the evening including the extra bags collected for family / friends.
Having prepared food for 100 + people, there was plenty for all, with many people at stop 4 having extra sandwiches and pasties.
Last night City Bus were joined by a member of staff from Path Devon signposting people to St Matts Plymouth, the church open as part of Project 58: 7,
Catherine from Transforming Plymouth Together and Shannon a social work student.
Together everyone chatted to people and caught up with their news. Catherine also told people between 55 and 75 years old, about the Lung Cancer Screening session being held at #Shekinah this Saturday, February 14th, between 9a.m. and noon.
Once again great collaborative work.
Many thanks to EVERYONE who gives up their time in the evening to help and support people.

It is always a pleasure to meet the Plymouth Argyle Football Club under 18 apprentices to talk about Plymouth Soup Run and what food they will need to prepare for the Run they are organising in 2 weeks time. This will be the 3rd year running that Argyle under 18s are organising and serving on Plymouth Soup Run. #communitysupport #helpingothers
Luckily, Sunday night was dry and, not surprisingly, busier than the last few nights, with 64 people at the first stop and 6 extra bags collected for family members. By the end of the evening 98 people had been served with an extra 14 bags collected as well.
There was plenty of food for everyone with some extras available at the last stop. The team served macaroni cheese, chicken or tomato soup, egg or cheese sandwiches, plus some chicken, bananas and yoghurts, together with hot drinks.

4 volunteers from STORM running joined our regular Sunday night team with everyone working hard both to prepare the food, do the washing up, pack the bags, take the rubbish out and serve Plymouth Soup Run.
Many thanks to you ALL.

Many thanks to the volunteers from Lighthouse Community Centre CIC who crossed the Tamar on Saturday, as they do once a month, to serve on Plymouth Soup Run.
It was a dry, calm, quieter evening with plenty of food for everybody. 61 meals were served including for a family of 4 with plenty of extras available at the last 3 stops.
Some items of clothing, toiletries, blankets and sleeping bags were also available.
Mutley Baptist Church was open both in the afternoon and overnight for people who are #streethomeless with most of them popping down to the Run to collect food.
Many thanks to everyone for their help on Saturday.
Together we will #MakeADifference.
With 3 of our regular Plymouth Soup Run volunteers away this Saturday morning, a huge thank you to today’s team who were kept very busy all morning, cooking, serving, finding suitable clothes, chatting and listening.
23 people came to #Shekinah during the morning and everyone enjoyed their cooked breakfast, snacks and hot drinks. A packed lunch was available when people left.
People who are #streethomeless are certainly feeling the effects of the constant rain with many quite low and subdued.
Huge thanks to everybody who helped on a busy morning.
Once again the rain came pouring down but still there were people waiting to collect food whilst trying to find some shelter to keep dry. As always on a Friday, the team of cooks from Plymouth Christian Centre were busy in the afternoon preparing the food for the evening. On the menu was meat pie, vegetables and gravy, plus a tasty rice and lentil dish prepared by Uday Panwar and family. The soup was potato and carrot and there was a choice of cheese sandwiches.
A staff member from Project 58:7 joined Plymouth Soup Run with a queue of people waiting to speak to them hoping to be offered a bed space for the night. Mutley Baptist Church was open on Friday and will be again on Saturday night.
Once again, great teamwork by everybody involved, all with the same aim of trying to support people and make life a little easier for them.
Many thanks to everyone who helped both in the afternoon, in the evening and overnight in the church. Together, we will try to. #MakeADifference.
