Plymouth Soup Run
Another cool night for the Mutley Baptist Church team on their regular Wednesday run. They served 57 people plus 13 meals for family members and friends not able to come to the run, and one to a vulnerable hostel resident. Two sleeping bags were given out and the recipients referred to Path Devon. Blankets were in high demand with all five available being given out and more requested. Sometimes the word 'thank-you' is just not big enough. On Sunday, thanks to Wetherspoons The Game! with BillyChip.com, we received 200 burgers, chips and drinks. With plenty for everyone at the four stops, food was also taken to George House. Rachel has been joining us each week supporting both the people we serve and the team. Her input has been invaluable - collaborative work at its best. The #StPaulsEfford team met high numbers last night, considering the awful weather, giving out 78 meals, dry clothing and a sleeping bag. They took food to people in emergency accommodation arranged by Path Devon and to a vulnerable hostel resident, as well as providing food and practical support to a person sleeping in their car. Every night, volunteers from Plymouth Soup Run are out on the streets of Plymouth serving food and checking in with people. We carry sleeping bags, emergency clothing and pass messages to and from other services. On Saturday, it was the turn of the team from Plymstock United Church. A steady stream of #streethomeless people came to Shekinah Saturday morning. Two had been seen on the run for the first time last night and were signposted to the session. Everyone had a cooked breakfast, a packed lunch and, if they wished, a shower.
