Plymouth Soup Run
It was a very busy Saturday morning at Shekinah with 27 people joining us during the morning. Gavin Hobbs and Trish were very busy cooking 22 full English breakfasts in the first 30 minutes. It was a happy, relaxed morning with 9 people having a shower and some clean clothes. 1 person had the wound on their foot dressed. Many people stayed for most of the morning and enjoyed chatting and relaxing in the beautiful garden. The prospect of a swim at Mount Wise appealed to some people so we packed them up with towels, bags and a big packed lunch to enjoy. Huge thanks to Bronia, #hopebaptistchurch for delivering their last Easter gift bags containing biscuits, sweets, a drink, pot noodles. tissues, deodorant, Easter eggs and so much more. Everyone was delighted with their extra goodies. And as always thanks to all the team for volunteering on a Saturday morning.#communitysupport #teamwork ... See MoreSee Less

The team of cooks at Plymouth Christian Centre were busy on Friday preparing the food to be served on Plymouth Soup Run. On the menu - minestrone soup, spicy chicken drumsticks with pasta and tomato sauce or, for vegetarians, a cheesy pasta, bean bake. The sandwiches were a choice of cheese, cheese and lettuce or ham and there was plenty of fruit and snack bags as well. 98 people were served during the evening .Two sleeping bags, two laundry vouchers, some clothes and toiletries were also given out .Everyone was very sad to hear that someone, known to a number of people, had died that day and his close relatives were understandably very distressed. On a more positive note, we were delighted to hear that someone had become a granny. Plymouth soup run provides so much more than food. We are there providing a shoulder to cry on when life is extremely difficult for people or celebrating when circumstances improve. Many thanks to EVERYONE who helped on Friday by preparing the food or serving on the run. Thanks also to FareShare South West for much of the food.#teamwork #communitysupport #helpingothers ... Fortunately, on Saturday, the rain held off for the volunteers from Plymstock United Church. The team prepared food for 85 people and served 85 with a few emergency supplies shared at the last stop. The homemade soup was very popular. As well as food, 1 sleeping bag, 2 blankets, a roll mat, a day rider and some clothes were given out. Lots of banter exchanged between people and as is so often the case, we heard both positive and sad news. Wonderful to see the support offered between the people we serve, with a couple now accommodated, passing on some of their survival items to a man newly homeless. Many thanks to all the team.#communitysupport #helpingothers #MakeADifference ... Plymouth Soup Run
On a chilly, drizzly Saturday morning, we welcomed 22 people to the rough sleeper session at Shekinah. It was busy but calm and productive. All clients had a cooked breakfast with the option of a shower, clean clothes and a packed lunch. Three people were recently discharged from hospital, one of whom was helped to reconnect to support outside Plymouth. All appreciated the quiet convivial atmosphere and the beauty of the garden that is really coming into its own as spring advances. Thanks to our volunteers - on the door, in the kitchen, serving food and chatting, managing the showers/laundry and cleaning. A great team effort. ... See MoreSee Less

Friday night was dry but surprisingly chilly. A slightly quieter evening with 74 people served by the team from Plymouth Christian Centre. During the day the cooks prepared jacket potatoes with cheese and beans, lentil and tomato soup, and cheese and ham sandwiches. Given the higher numbers served earlier in the week the team over catered so were very generous after stop 1 with most people receiving extra. The surplus food was well received at George House BCHA.Many thanks to EVERYONE who helped. Great to be joined by some new volunteers. And, as always, thanks to FareShare South West for the supplies. #teamwork #communitysupport #helpingothers ... See MoreSee Less
