It was bitterly cold and icy underfoot when we opened Shekinah this morning. 21 clients were very happy to come indoors, have a cooked breakfast, and rest. Several others were supported at the door. Those who wished to had showers and clean clothes. Podiatrists Jo and Don, volunteers from Forgotten Feet - Helping Homeless Feet treated seven people, some with relatively serious footcare issues and all benefiting from having compassionate and professional attention to their feet. The kitchen team hit the ground running, serving 40% of the clients in the first few minutes and then a steady stream arriving over the morning session. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, so some really good conversations were had. And we were able to pass on information about arrangements for people to be indoors from late afternoon and overnight. Thanks to everyone for their inputs including the floor team who swerved the photo op!
Once again on Friday the team of cooks at #plymouthchristiancentre were busy in the kitchen preparing the food for Plymouth Soup Run. This is a special shout out to all who have made cash donations to Plymouth Soup Run in the weeks leading up to Christmas. We receive help in many different forms from food to clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags and other practical items, delivered in person or via our Amazon Wish List plus, of course, the many hours of their own time that our volunteers give. This enables us to meet a large part of the needs that we experience in trying to provide a comprehensive service. But the crucial component that complements all of these and allows us to support our clients speedily and flexibly is funding. So, on behalf of the people we serve, we send a heartfelt thank you to our cash donors.
We send a massive thank-you to Helen and her Tai Chi students at MINDFUL BODY Tai Chi - Qigong - Shiatsu who raised funds for Plymouth Soup Run in the weeks upto Christmas. The cash donation will help us continue to serve each and every night the growing community of people needing support across Plymouth. On their behalf we thank everyone who contributed to this fundraiser.
