It was a steady peaceful evening for the Mutley Baptist Church team out on their regular Wednesday Plymouth Soup Run. They served 65 people plus 13 meals provided for friends/family not able to get to the run. Plymouth Soup Run
As forecast on Tuesday night, by 9pm the rain had arrived and was torrential by the time the St Matts Plymouth team arrived at the Hoe stop. Serving food was challenging, but the team were struck by how uncomplaining the 65 people they served were. A really challenging night for people who are streethomeless. Last night, Hope Baptist Church were out on Plymouth Soup Run, as every Monday. Bev and Jaide were joined in the kitchen by Team #vivo, peparing pasties, KFC, cheese jackets, bananas and custard, and fruit crumble made with fruit from Provide Devon. Mary drove the minibus with #babcock Trades Union volunteers, along with Prayer Pastors Alex and Philippa providing the all important opportunity to listen and chat to clients. Everyone we served was drenched through, but still 75 people came to collect food with another 11 bags collected for friends and family not able to come out. On a damp Tuesday night, a business team from TOTUS sourced, prepared and served the food on Plymouth Soup Run. Their catering was spot on. 72 people came to the run and 7 bags were collected for friends and family. Many thanks to all who helped Hope Baptist Church prepare and serve the food for 85 people on Monday (plus 6 bags for friends/family not able to come to the run). 4 sleeping bags were also given out. The Mexican sausage pasta prepared by Jan and team (Jan, Jeoff, Holly, Wendy, Rachel, Jason and Max) was well recieved. On Monday night, a change in the weather from the awful wind and rain of the previous night was welcomed by everyone. The calm atmosphere made for some good conversations. Hope Baptist Church led the run with volunteers from Devonport Community Baptist Church, Will, Joe, Richard, Carl and Michael.
