A huge thank you to the 3 volunteers from STORM running who joined our slightly depleted Sunday team, helping both with the food preparation and serving on the Run. We could not have managed without you. Thanks as always to our regular volunteers, to #FareShareSouthWest for all the fruit, milk, cakes, drinks and pizzas and to staff from #Jar who at the end of a busy day brought down their remaining cakes and bread. Brilliant teamwork.
The team catered for 100 and served 108 meals, including quite a few extras for people known to us, who were unable to access the run. There was just enough food for everyone with a quick stop at #Shekinah to top up on some supplies.

Seventeen people who are currently rough sleeping Seventeen people who are currently rough sleeping came to @Shekinah this morning. It was a calm and peaceful session. All had a cooked breakfast, some then choosing to rest quietly, and some having a shower or enjoying chatting to other clients and voluteers. The hardships of rough sleeping were clearly taking their toll on the heath of a number of people. One was rcently discharged from hospital. Two had wounds dressed, and another was encouraged to go to the Cumberland Centre for attention. A medical student working on a project on health advocacy for people experiencing homelessness had positive interactions with clients and volunteers, exploring the challenges that rough sleeping brings and the services that are available in response. A big thank-you to the kitchen team and to all who helped make the session a success.

Today, 10th October, we mark World Homeless Day, a Today, 10th October, we mark World Homeless Day, along with others across the globe who are working to end homelessness and alleviate the suffering it causes. The scale of the challenge that we face is illustrated by the statistics below. Recognising the link between homelessness and mental health, it is very apt that today is also World Mental Health Day with a theme of 'access to services’. So we welcome the support that we receive from practitioners from the Health Inclusion Pathway, Plymouth (HIPP) and Livewell to provide clients with fortnightly outreach mental health care. We thank them, along with all of our volunteers, donors and collaborators. Together we aim to make a difference for people when life is tough.
