Plymouth Soup Run
It was an exceptionally busy Saturday evening for the team from Lighthouse Community Centre CIC who crossed the Tamar for the first time in 2026 to serve on Plymouth Soup Run.Including extra bags collected for family / friends, 93 people were served. Knowing how much food to prepare every night is a challenge but the team had just about the right amount. Mutley Baptist Church was open again as part of project 58:7. 3 people were directed there from the first stop, one of whom was shivering from the cold. Another person, due to the complexity of their health, was collected by Path Devon and driven to the church. One more person, at the final stop, was dropped off at the church to avoid arriving too late and disturbing people already sleeping. As well as food, 3 day riders were given out for people who have forthcoming appointments. Huge thanks to all the team on a busy night. Thanks also to the people who continue to send really helpful donations from our Amazon Wishlist. #communitysupport #MakeADifference #helpingothers ... Plymouth Soup Run
It was a very busy Saturday morning at #Shekinah with people waiting outside for us to open. #CharlieEde was in the kitchen working his magic with the help of Catherine who was volunteering with us for the first time. There were lots of compliments about the breakfast “ fantastic breakfast” “hits the spot” “a really nice breakfast” and “lovely toast,it was beautiful”. Today Charlie served a full English with hash browns, tomatoes and mushrooms. Sadly I have no photographic evidence of the breakfast as we were so busy! During the morning we served 29 people, 9 people had a shower with some having clean items of clothing. It was a happy, relaxed morning and, those people who wanted one, left with a packed lunch. Many thanks to ALL our volunteers who help on Saturday mornings. #communitysupport #MakeADifference #helpingothers ... Great team work again on Friday with some volunteers from Plymouth Christian Centre preparing the food for other volunteers to the take out and serve on Plymouth Soup Run. The main meal was a choice of sausage and cheese pasta bake or pasties. People were pleased to warm up their hands on the piping hot food containers!! There were 3 varieties of sandwiches including turkey and cranberry, cheese or cheese and onion. Currently, as is often the case, the team were joined at stop 1 by a staff member from Path Devon advising people who were #streethomeless of their options for the night. 2 new people went up to #mutleybaptistchurch to sleep and another person was placed by Plymouth City Council in a B. and B. 2 sleeping bags were given out. A quieter night with 55 people served. Thanks to EVERYONE who helped. #communitysupport #helpingothers #teamwork #MakeADifference ... See MoreSee Less

With Storm Goretti in full force, blowing a gale and raining and the emergency government mobile alert sounding, Thursday nights Plymouth Soup Run team from #PlymouthMayflowerRotaryclub were on their way to the first stop. Given the awful weather there were a surprising number of people waiting for the team to arrive.5 sleeping bags and 2 roll mats were given out to people who were #streethomeless. It was only possible to chat to people briefly as managing to stay standing whilst serving food and drinks was a real challenge!By the end of the evening 68 meals had been served including the extra bags. People were very appreciative that the team had gone out in spite of the weather. As we always say “we will be out every night whatever the weather”. Huge thanks to the team for coming out tonight. #communitysupport #MakeADifference #helpingothers ... See MoreSee Less

Plymouth Soup Run
On Tuesday night a wonderful selection of food was prepared by the kitchen team from #stmattsplymouth. Vegetable soup was on the menu with a choice of 3 hot meals : beef pies, with vegetables and potatoes, cheesy pasta or baked potatoes and cheese. For desert there was yogurt or poached pears and instant whip. All of this plus sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, fruit, a selection of savoury snacks and hot drinks. Many thanks to FareShare South West, Sally for the eggs and Mayflower Medical who together provided most of the food. It was a quieter night so people at the last stop were able to have extra, with the remaining food taken to George House BCHA and back to the church for the people who were sleeping there overnight. Not only were St Matts on Plymouth Soup Run but their church, as part of project 58:7 was open for people to sleep there overnight. Whilst most people, who were #streethomeless were already at the church, 1 person was signposted there during the evening. Many thanks to ALL the team and to Simone from HIPP, the Health Inclusion Plymouth Partnership, who joined the team providing advice, information and a listening ear. #communitysupport #MakeADifference #teamwork ... Plymouth Soup Run
It was bitterly cold and icy underfoot when we opened Shekinah this morning. 21 clients were very happy to come indoors, have a cooked breakfast, and rest. Several others were supported at the door. Those who wished to had showers and clean clothes. Podiatrists Jo and Don, volunteers from Forgotten Feet - Helping Homeless Feet treated seven people, some with relatively serious footcare issues and all benefiting from having compassionate and professional attention to their feet. The kitchen team hit the ground running, serving 40% of the clients in the first few minutes and then a steady stream arriving over the morning session. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, so some really good conversations were had. And we were able to pass on information about arrangements for people to be indoors from late afternoon and overnight. Thanks to everyone for their inputs including the floor team who swerved the photo op! ... See MoreSee Less

It’s not often the open top bus arrives in the winter, to distribute food on Plymouth Soup Run but it did on Tuesday, thanks to Plymouth Citybus who organised and served on the run. It was the busiest night there has been for awhile with 67 people served at the first stop alone. By the end of the evening 103 meals had been served. A blanket and sleeping bag were given out plus some joggers, gloves, scarves and hats. It is always good to catch up with people and hear their news. Last night we had updates on people’s health, a dog we see regularly who had just had an operation and how people are feeling about the forthcoming new year. Many thanks to Plymouth City Bus for their support in 2025. We are delighted that they will continue to serve in 2026.#communitysupport #helpingothers #MakeADifference ... See MoreSee Less

The team from #plymouthchristiancentre prepared a good supply of food on Boxing Day, including mushroom soup, a selection of pies with roasted veg and gravy, turkey and cranberry sandwiches, plus ham and cheese sandwiches. There were also lots of extras, including marshmallows and cashew nuts. A total of 52 meals were served, but the team adopted a generous approach when they realised numbers weren’t going to be high…and everyone had just as much as they wanted.Warm clothes were in demand, and woolly hats, scarves and plenty of socks were distributed to those who asked. A few coats were also given out.A big thank you to the people who donated turkeys and winter clothes. The sandwiches (turkey & cranberry) were delicious. The remaining food was delivered to George House BCHA. Thanks to ALL the volunteers from Plymouth Christian Centre for cooking, organising and serving on Boxing Day. Project 58:7 was in operation with #MutleyBaptistChurch open for people with no accommodation and people were advised to go there overnight. 2 people were also at The Salvation Army Devonport Life House Plymouth. Many thanks to Path Devon, Transforming Plymouth Together and all the churches for providing shelter during the long, cold winter nights. #communitysupport #helpingothers #MakeADifference ...
