Plymouth Soup Run
It was another VERY busy Saturday morning at Shekinah. Once again there was a queue of people waiting for us to open and people continued to arrive throughout the morning. 34 people were served in the 2 1/2 hrs we were open and the queue of people wanting a shower meant we stayed open slightly longer than usual. We were joined by 2 podiatrists from Forgotten Feet - Helping Homeless Feet who were also very busy. Huge thanks to ALL Plymouth Soup Run volunteers who regularly help on a Saturday. During the morning a wonderful donation from First Tamar Valley Cub troop was dropped off. 10 boxes full of really helpful donations that the cubs had collected. Thank you all brilliant work. #communitysupport #helpingothers ... See MoreSee Less

Plymouth Soup Run
On Thursday evening the team from #thecornwallbakery arrived with a wonderful selection of sandwiches and hot savouries, together with snack bags, fruit, freshlymade soup, water and hot drinks. The team served 78 people plus 11 meals collected for family members. At the last stop everyone was able to have extra sandwiches or savoury items. As the road closure ( due to the bomb) was still in place the team were unable to go to stop 3 but were pleased to see many of the people, who would usually be attending Martin Street, at Kings Road.1 sleeping bags, a blanket, some socks and underwear were also given out. Many thanks to the Cornwall Bakery Samworth Brothers for their continued support, to The Salvation Army Devonport Life House Plymouth for the use of their kitchen to prepare the food and drinks and to the person, who when walking by last night, stopped to make a cash donation. #communitysupport #helpingothers #MakeADifference ... Plymouth Soup Run
The Wednesday night Plymouth Soup Run team from #mutleybaptistchurch just avoided the worst of the rain, meaning people could collect their food and get away to take shelter before the rain came.Because of the unexploded bomb at Martin Street the team were not able to go to stop 3 and had to follow a diversion to drive to Kings Road from The Hoe.The vast majority of people were in good spirits with 79 people served and 9 bags of food collected for family / friends. Thanks to Tesco Mutley Plain for their usual generous donation. At the first stop there was a queue of people, who are currently #streethomeless, waiting for Path Devon staff to see if they were able to sleep at #stpeterandtheholyapostles, the church that was open as part of project 58:7. Wednesday night is one of the main nights for clothes and a selection were available plus some toiletries.3 sleeping bags and a blanket were also given out. Many thanks to Mutley Baptist Church and all their volunteers. #communitysupport #helpingothers #MakeADifference ... Many thanks to Obedair who continue to provide the food and serve Plymouth Soup Run on a regular basis. On Tuesday the team were kept busy, especially at the first stop, where 71 meals were served, 3 sleeping bags, some toiletries and scarves were given out. By the end of the evening 100 meals had been served with just enough food for everyone. Thankfully a Reverse Advent Calendar donation had just been collected from Julie and some of her donations were given out ensuring no one went short. The team were also joined by a number of other services - Path Devon who referred 5 people to the church to sleep, Zoe from Livewell Southwest who provided a listening ear and will do some follow up work with people and Catherine, a newly appointed staff member, from Transforming Plymouth Together, who enjoyed meeting people and seeing how we can collaborate to support people’s health and wellbeing. Great #teamwork providing #communitysupport and #helpingothers. Many thanks to everyone for their help and support last night. Plymouth Soup Run
Fortunately, the rain stopped shortly before we went out on Plymouth Soup Run. It was a busy but calm evening with 92 people served across the 4 stops and another 12 meals collected for family / friends. There was plenty of food for everyone. Lyndsey had prepared 130 hot meals, chicken & bacon pasta bake and macaroni cheese, with the remainder being taken to George House BCHA and Sherwell church, which was open for people who were #streethomeless. As well as the hot meals we had 3 varieties of sandwiches, crisps, chocolate bars, hot and cold drinks, yoghurts, individual desserts and bananas. Many thanks to everybody who helped last night. We were joined, for the first time, by 4 volunteers from Inhealth Lung Screening. It was really good to have their support as 2 of our volunteers were needed up at the church for project. 58:7. 1 person, who we met at the run then went up jto the church to sleep for the first time. All the other people, who are accessing the church provision, already knew where to go.#communitysupport #helpingothers #MakeADifference ... Plymouth Soup Run
It was an exceptionally busy Saturday evening for the team from Lighthouse Community Centre CIC who crossed the Tamar for the first time in 2026 to serve on Plymouth Soup Run.Including extra bags collected for family / friends, 93 people were served. Knowing how much food to prepare every night is a challenge but the team had just about the right amount. Mutley Baptist Church was open again as part of project 58:7. 3 people were directed there from the first stop, one of whom was shivering from the cold. Another person, due to the complexity of their health, was collected by Path Devon and driven to the church. One more person, at the final stop, was dropped off at the church to avoid arriving too late and disturbing people already sleeping. As well as food, 3 day riders were given out for people who have forthcoming appointments. Huge thanks to all the team on a busy night. Thanks also to the people who continue to send really helpful donations from our Amazon Wishlist. #communitysupport #MakeADifference #helpingothers ... Plymouth Soup Run
It was a very busy Saturday morning at #Shekinah with people waiting outside for us to open. #CharlieEde was in the kitchen working his magic with the help of Catherine who was volunteering with us for the first time. There were lots of compliments about the breakfast “ fantastic breakfast” “hits the spot” “a really nice breakfast” and “lovely toast,it was beautiful”. Today Charlie served a full English with hash browns, tomatoes and mushrooms. Sadly I have no photographic evidence of the breakfast as we were so busy! During the morning we served 29 people, 9 people had a shower with some having clean items of clothing. It was a happy, relaxed morning and, those people who wanted one, left with a packed lunch. Many thanks to ALL our volunteers who help on Saturday mornings. #communitysupport #MakeADifference #helpingothers ... On Tuesday night a wonderful selection of food was prepared by the kitchen team from #stmattsplymouth. Vegetable soup was on the menu with a choice of 3 hot meals : beef pies, with vegetables and potatoes, cheesy pasta or baked potatoes and cheese. For desert there was yogurt or poached pears and instant whip. All of this plus sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, fruit, a selection of savoury snacks and hot drinks. Many thanks to FareShare South West, Sally for the eggs and Mayflower Medical who together provided most of the food. It was a quieter night so people at the last stop were able to have extra, with the remaining food taken to George House BCHA and back to the church for the people who were sleeping there overnight. Not only were St Matts on Plymouth Soup Run but their church, as part of project 58:7 was open for people to sleep there overnight. Whilst most people, who were #streethomeless were already at the church, 1 person was signposted there during the evening. Plymouth Soup Run
It was bitterly cold and icy underfoot when we opened Shekinah this morning. 21 clients were very happy to come indoors, have a cooked breakfast, and rest. Several others were supported at the door. Those who wished to had showers and clean clothes. Podiatrists Jo and Don, volunteers from Forgotten Feet - Helping Homeless Feet treated seven people, some with relatively serious footcare issues and all benefiting from having compassionate and professional attention to their feet. The kitchen team hit the ground running, serving 40% of the clients in the first few minutes and then a steady stream arriving over the morning session. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, so some really good conversations were had. And we were able to pass on information about arrangements for people to be indoors from late afternoon and overnight. Thanks to everyone for their inputs including the floor team who swerved the photo op! ... See MoreSee Less
