Thursday was another very cold, busy night, with people who are #streethomeless checking if they had accommodation for the night Path Devon or asking for sleeping bags and blankets, if they had decided to stay in their tents. The team, from Callington, came prepared with lots of food, piping hot soup and drinks, together with sleeping bags, roll mats and blankets. 96 meals were served during the evening and 5 sleeping bags, roll mats and blankets were also given out. Whilst some people wanted to chat about their situation many left quickly as the temperature dropped. Many thanks to the volunteers from the Callington Soup Run team who cross the Tamar every 5 weeks to serve on the streets of Plymouth. Thanks also to all the organisations who have opened their doors this week providing accommodation for people who are #streethomeless, in this very cold weather. #communitysupport #teamwork #MakeADifference #helpingothers ... All the prepared food was given out during the evening together with lots of coats, hats, scarfs, gloves and a lot of toiletries.4 sleeping bags were also given out. On Saturday, a team from Lighthouse Community Centre CIC crossed the Tamar to serve on Plymouth soup run on an exceptionally busy Saturday night. The team served over 100 people with just enough food for everyone although the soup did run out, which is most unusual. 3 day riders were given out to people with appointments and 2 or more sleeping bags were also given out. It was so busy at the first stop it was hard to keep up with everybody. As always a number of people needed to chat, explain things and ask for advice. Many thanks to all the team and to the anonymous donors who have purchased sleeping bags and joggers from our Amazon wish list. Plymouth Soup Run
Today, Plymouth Soup Run volunteers participated in the first Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Open Day organised by Shekinah. This gave us the opportunity to raise awarenes of the hardships experienced by people who are impacted by homelessness and other forms of deprivation, explain the help that we offer, and celebrate the support that we receive from different sectors of the community. By happy coincidence, we have just taken delivery of a consignment of beautiful warm and water-repellent blankets kindly donated by Equafleece - as seen in the foreground of the picture here. Our sincere thanks go to the company for providing the basic materials and to the machinists who generously gave their time to produce the blankets. We look forward to giving out the blankets to our clients over the coming days. #MakingADifference #CommunitySpirit ... See MoreSee Less
