World Homeless Day 2022
On 10th October Plymouth Soup Run marked #WorldHomelessDay 2022. As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, we are serving 25% more meals than in 2021. Every night, we connect with people who are street homeless, providing them with immediate help – food, a hot drink and a sleeping bag – and referring them to the Path Devon Rough Sleeper Team for support. Last weekend alone, teams referred four people. We fear that yet more people will become homeless as the year wears on and the health and wellbeing of an even greater number will suffer. We have written to the three Plymouth MPs Johnny Mercer, Luke Pollard and Sir Gary Streeter to raise our concerns and invite them to a Soup Run to see people’s struggles first hand.
